ABSTRACT

Entamoeba histolytica is an intestinal protozoan parasite and the causative agent of human amoebiasis. It remains a signi‘cant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is estimated that one-tenth of the world’s population is infected with E. histolytica and this infection results in up to 100,000 deaths each year [1]. E. histolytica has a worldwide distribution but is more commonly found in developing countries, and is more prevalent in the tropics and subtropics [2].
