ABSTRACT
The genus Tunga encompasses 10 sand ›ea species (Siphonaptera) that are ectoparasites of animals and humans. While both the male and female ›eas are hematophagous, only the breeding female penetrates the exposed skin of mammals and causes in›ammation, irritation, itching, pain, and ulceration.
