ABSTRACT

A. Parenteral Emulsions Injectable emulsions are used mainly for lipids or lipid-soluble materials. They are used for nutritional purposes and delivery of vaccines, and as drug carriers and diagnostic agents. For intramuscular use, paraffin oils as well as oils of vegetable origin are emulsified with nonionic surfactants such as sorbitan fatty acid esters and polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters. Via the intravenous route, properly purified vegetable oils with egg or soya phospholipids as emulsifiers are commonly used. The subject has been well reviewed [1-3] and this section highlights salient information.
