ABSTRACT

Bloedow [84] described the first stage of absorption of oils as hydrolysis at the oil-water interface followed by solubilization into bile salt micelles, which are assumed to penetrate into the villi of the small intestine; a drug could thus be carried along with its lipid solvent. The lipid component of lipid-bilesalt mixed micelles or perhaps of the finely divided emulsion state, is thought to enhance the fluidity and permeability of the mucosal membrane to poorly absorbed drugs [85].
