ABSTRACT

There is another method of increasing the residence time in a given rotor/stator mixing pump, and that is to change the pumping circumstances by increasing the discharge head or by restricting the outlet side of the pump by use of a valve. These rotor/stator pumps all work on a centrifugal pump basis. They are not positive displacement pumps, and their ability to produce flow decreases as viscosity and the required discharge head is increased. A discharge head can be increased merely by increasing the vertical distance that the pump is required to move the product, but the simplest method is to install a valve downstream and close it partially until the desired flow rate is obtained.
