ABSTRACT
Bacterial biofilms are a common, yet complex, biological phenomenon. They are associated with infections of foreign bodies (vascular and urinary catheters, endotracheal tubes, prosthetic devices), chronic respiratory infection (cystic fibrosis), otitis media, bone and joint infections, endocarditis, and such common clinical entities as periodontal disease and dental caries (1).
