ABSTRACT

Vascular anomalies are disorders of the endothelium that usually present during childhood. These lesions affect all parts of the vasculature: capillaries, veins, arteries, or lymphatics. Although benign, vascular anomalies can cause local destruction as well as systemic morbidity. While approximately 90% of these lesions do not require treatment, the remainder present challenging problems. The most conservative approach to minimize complications associated with vascular anomalies is to refer patients with problematic lesions to an interdisciplinary Vascular Anomalies Center with experienced medical and surgical specialists.
