ABSTRACT

Violence and rage have become major public health and social problems in the United States and many other countries around the world. In particular, during the past few years there have been more than 3 million violent crimes committed in the United States annually (Reiss et al., 1994), resulting in costs of billions of dollars to society. In addition, the homicide rate among adolescents increased 238% between 1985 and 1994 (Hennes, 1998). In the year 2000, an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes were reported (FBI Press release, Oct. 22, 2001).
