In order to achieve the highest scientific outcome with the smallest possible implications for the test animals, it is essential to standardize production and assure quality. Quality assurance of laboratory animals is especially concerned with microbiological and genetic factors. Furthermore, the status of swine as an important meat production animal means that certain legal demands must be fulfilled.
