ABSTRACT
Chronologically, enumeration of words according to the occurrence of a pattern or a set of patterns grew out of the corresponding research questions in permutations, and was followed by enumeration of compositions according to the occurrence of a given (set of) pattern(s). In this book, we have presented the more general results first.
