ABSTRACT
The variational method is useful in obtaining the bound state energies and wave functions of a time–independent Hamiltonian H. The variational method is often the method of choice for studying complex systems such as many–electron atoms and molecules. The overwhelming majority of its practical applications involve numerical computation.
