Mass transfer is important in many areas of science and engineering. Many familiar phenomena involve mass transfer:
• The spreading of odorous gas in a room. • Liquid in an open pail of water evaporating into surrounding air. • A piece of sugar added to a cup of coffee eventually dissolving by itself
into the surrounding solution.
