ABSTRACT

The threat to public health and to men’s health from the rapidly increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes fueled by the epidemic of obesity is enormous. This phenomenon is likely to bring with it an explosion of vascular complications resulting in premature morbidity and mortality from atherosclerosis-related disease – coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease, in addition to the specific small-vessel or micovascular complications contributing to retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy.
