ABSTRACT
The selection of metrics begins with objectives. Objectives determine goals to be achieved for the environmental management function as well as the users and the mission context. The methods for developing environmental metrics are straightforward: define the strategies, processes, and organizations put in place to accomplish objectives and select metrics that indicate how well you are performing against your objectives. As shown in the Metrics Development Wheel, there is a wide variety of elements to potentially draw upon.
