INTRODUCTION High-throughput screening (HTS) has become a mature and reliable component of the drug discovery process. It now has a proven, if somewhat variable, track record of impact on pipelines, and the technology is migrating into other parts of the drug discovery and optimization process as well as into academic institutes (1-7).
