ABSTRACT
Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a tool for the assessment of the environmental impact of product systems (Heijungs et al., 1992). It considers the life cycle of a product
from resource extraction to waste disposal. In LCAs, substance-specific weighting factors, also called characterization factors in LCA circles, are used to aggregate a wide variety of emissions causing ecotoxicological impacts.
