ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a brief, non-technical review of time to event methods in engineering, particularly reliability engineering. Mathematical formulae have been avoided throughout. An outline of the basic parametric modeling approach is set out together with some topics of current research interest, including random effects modeling, technological evolution and degradation modeling. Where possible, potential links between time to event methods in engineering and environmental toxicology are highlighted.
