ABSTRACT

The term dosimetry, as used here, means the methodology of calculating

the dose rate value at a specific point from a source in a given medium,

which is usually water. This enables us to calculate the dose distribution

in the three-dimensional (3D) space around the source. In fact, all available

sources applied in modern brachytherapy have a cylindrical geometry,

and are constructed (core and encapsulation) in such a way that one can

assume a cylindrical symmetry of the dose distribution with respect to their

longitudinal axis.
