ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an understanding on how photons in the energy
range relevant to brachytherapy, interact with matter. Photons are indirectly
ionizing particles, which eventually interact with the material through
which they travel and appropriate interaction coefficients describe the
probability of such interactions. Consequently, they also describe radiation
transmission, energy transfer, and energy deposition in matter.
