ABSTRACT
Issues relating to coding of data, prior to data analysis, have been addressed far less by statisticians and data analysts than the methods themselves. Input data coding belongs to the undergrowth, so to speak, of data analysis. However input data coding is a highly practical aspect of the analysis of data since it impacts directly on the result obtained. It is therefore instructive to look at innovative and perhaps even unusual techniques in regard to data coding.
