ABSTRACT

As the first decade of the 21st century draws to a close, blood establishments are potentially challenged on a number of fronts; publicly funded facilities are under increasing cost pressures, and for the private sector competition is intense. While the regulators can be judged to be taking a more pragmatic approach to compliance (of which more later), public concerns about data privacy and data integrity are, if anything, increasing, as are “client” expectations as to responsiveness and level and quality of service provision by donor centers and other such facilities.
