ABSTRACT

The discussions of Chapters 1 through 7 partially fulfill the modeling concerns that must be addressed with the simulation of waste sites, but they do not cover all of the important issues. The important issues with representation of a waste site as a granular media system are the role of surface area in conversion and mass transfer of chemicals and heat transfer, the importance of settlement in long-term waste site management, hydraulic flow and distribution of moisture and system permeability to gas flow. Initialization of the system is equally important. These topics and pertinent literature will be briefly discussed in practical terms in this section.
