ABSTRACT

Modern civilizations are virtually dependent upon the manufacture and use ofthousands of unique chemicals. Many of those chemicals, if used improper-ly, have the potential for catastrophic effects on human health and the environment. The Toxic Substance Control Act Inventory contains over 70,000 chemicals that the EPA monitors for the public health impact.1 Laws that ensure the safety and health of the public are drafted to address the potential of a chemical to cause bodily injury. A chemical may cause bodily injury by means of its use, misuse, transportation, disposal, or treatment. Therefore, the laws that are implemented address those specific areas.
