ABSTRACT
Nitroaromatic compounds constitute a major class of environmental contaminants. They are important as industrial feedstocks due to the versatile chemistry of the nitro group. For example, 97% of nitrobenzene (NB) produced worldwide is used for aniline production,
which increased 50% between 1988 and 1998 to 1.5 billion pounds.
