ABSTRACT
As stated over 200 years ago in the law of the conservation of mass, we cannot (at the practical level) destroy toxic and hazardous elements. However, we may be able to chemically rearrange or detoxify them. Additionally, we may isolate them from the environment. These approaches will minimize the exposure of people to toxic or hazardous materials, which is the major objective in waste treatment and disposal.
