ABSTRACT

Progress in nonlinear dynamics to date has been in the area of low-dimensional systems with no spatial extent. The first column of table 13.1 shows a partial list of commonly used analytical tools developed for this setting, that is, for the study of temporal nonlinear dynamics. They have been applied with success and led to novel applications of nonlinear dynamics. Representative applications are listed in the second column of table 13.1. In particular, I would like to mention communications (which is also the topic of chapter 5 by Van Wiggeren, GarciaOjalvo and Roy), control and computation.
