ABSTRACT
The weak force can change particles from one flavour to another. The most familiar example is when it changes a neutron into a proton, as in the form of radioactivity known as β decay (beta decay). Such a transmutation was responsible for Becquerel’s 1896 discovery of the beta particles (electrons) produced when uranium nuclei decay.
