ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to the application of particle counters in the drinking water treatment process. It is not intended as an exhaustive presentation, but rather as a starting point for looking more closely at the ways in which particle counters can provide valuable data for process optimization. Many different treatment processes and strategies are to be found in the drinking water industry, and source water quality varies greatly from region to region. It is hoped that readers will use this information as a catalyst for looking more thoughtfully and imaginatively at the particular application with which they are involved. It should also provide a framework from which to understand better some of the recommendations made elsewhere in the book.
