ABSTRACT

A footwear material primarily protects the feet from the environment in which it is worn. Leather is preferred as a footwear material because it has certain desirable properties, such as high moisture absorption as well as high air and moisture vapor permeability. The removal of liquid perspiration by evaporation and absorption makes a leather shoe more comfortable to wear. The stretchability of leather makes it suitable for the lasting process, in the manufacture of the shoes. The waterproofness of leather is not adequate. A coating to make it waterproof makes it impermeable. Leather can be given different finishes-patent, grain, and suede.
