ABSTRACT

Lasers used for destruction of tumors can be categorized as either photodynamic therapy (PDT) lasers or thermal lasers. PDT lasers are used to induce an interaction between a specic photosensitizer and oxygen in the tumor. is interaction results in the formation of singlet oxygen and free radicals that are highly cytotoxic. ermal lasers deliver a highly focused laser energy to the tissue, resulting in coagulation and/or vaporization of tumors.
