ABSTRACT
Accidents have occurred since the birth of civilization and were just as damaging in early times as they are today. Anyone who crosses a street, skis, or swims in a pool runs the risk of injury through carelessness, poor judgment, ignorance, or other circumstances. This has not changed through history. This introductory section examines a number of accidents and disasters that took place before the advances of modern technology.
