ABSTRACT
Most individuals are surrounded by low-level electric and magnetic fields from electric power lines, and appliances and electronic devices. During the 1980s, the public became concerned about such fields because of media reports of cancer clusters in residences and schools near electric substations and transmission lines. In addition, a series of epidemiological studies showed a weak association between exposure to power-frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and childhood leukemia or other forms of cancer.
