ABSTRACT

Biological investigations are often performed to gain a mechanistic understanding of the chemical and molecular pathways that regulate normal and aberrant cell and tissue responses. The modern understanding that proteins are the primary elements responsible for controlling and executing most physiological functions requires that researchers be able to evaluate the distribution and quantity of specic proteins in discrete regions of biological samples. Such capabilities are absolutely critical to the rational analysis of pathological conditions that arise in developing mice. Accordingly, developmental pathologists must be well acquainted with modern molecular pathology protocols.
