ABSTRACT

A mechatronic system consists of an integration of several components such as sensors, transducers, signal conditioning/modi cation devices, controllers, and a variety of other electronic and digital hardware. In the design, selection, and prescription of these components, their performance requirements have to be speci ed or established within the functional needs of the overall mechatronic system. Engineering parameters for performance speci cation may be de ned either in the time domain or in the frequency domain. Instrument ratings of commercial products are often developed on the basis of these engineering parameters. This chapter addresses these and related issues of performance speci cation.
