ABSTRACT
The sound management of chemicals (SMC) is integral to sustainable human development; it is a precondition for healthy environments for human settlement and physical well-being, including those with respect to provision of safe drinking water, air and food, and ecosystem health. Being a cross-cutting issue, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works to ensure that, as a part of the overall poverty reduction efforts at country level, the SMC is incorporated.
