ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses management of chemicals in North America and regional cooperation and collaboration between Canada, United States, and Mexico. It introduces linkages, global initiatives, and agencies responsible for such chemical management initiatives, as well as the relationship of the regional scenarios. Further, it notes current and future collaboration scenarios within the regional context. Safe chemicals management is a local, national, and global concern, and signižcant changes in the production, storage, transportation and use of the chemicals, as well as an increased awareness of the potential harms from exposure to the chemicals are necessary. North American activities are an important contribution to the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) (see Section IV of this book) and the realization of the World Summit on Sustainable
