ABSTRACT
Elastoplastic response of solids consists of elastic and plastic deformations, which are completely distinguishable from each other: An elastic deformation is reversible, while a plastic deformation is irreversible. Transition from a reversible deformation to a deformation involving an irreversible process, and vice versa, is thus the resource of nonsmoothness property in an elastoplastic problem, as seen below.
