ABSTRACT

In 2003, the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics directed the services to use high-data-capacity active RFID technology to support the in-transit visibility (ITV) of supplies. The U.S. Marine Corps initially responded by purchasing nearly 200,000 active RFID tags and acquiring over 1200 RFID reader interrogators for positioning throughout the Marine Corps operating forces. The Marine Corps has also acquired nearly 100 RFID portable deployment kits to support these efforts.
