ABSTRACT
As radio frequency identiŽcation (RFID) technology is applied to military logistics throughout this book, it is important for readers to familiarize themselves with a short history of military logistics. As the reader will note, in many ways, the fundamental concepts of military logistics today are the same as they were with the Žrst standing armies. However, in other ways, different types of new technology, particularly computer technology, have revolutionized military logistics. The use of RFID technology has the potential to represent another revolution in military logistics in some areas, but not others. We begin this introduction with a brief deŽnition of military logistics.
