ABSTRACT

Guides for Emergency Response: Chemical Agent or Weapon: Blood Agent Hydrogen Cyanide (AC) Introduction: Hydrogen Cyanide (AC) is a so-called blood agent (this is actually a historical and long-lasting misnomer; this agent has little or nothing to do with movement of blood) that is fast acting, highly poisonous, and may be fatal if inhaled. It has been called the perfect weapon if you want to kill yourself; but with speedy action and treatment, recovery aft er overexposure can be quick and complete. AC is a non-persistent, colorless liquid that is highly volatile yet dissipates quickly in the air. Th e United Nation number is 1051, and the Emergency Response Guidebook guide number is 117 if the solution is greater than 20 percent. If it is less than 20 percent solution, the United Nation number becomes 1613, and the Emergency Response Guidebook guide number becomes 154.
