ABSTRACT

Attribute reference systems and, more generally, semantic reference systems have been introduced as a means for reaching formal models of semantics (Chrisman, 2002; Kuhn, 2003). Such systems are proposed in order to overcome semantic heterogeneities between information communities. An information community is defined as a group of people who agree on a shared set of concepts (OGC, 2003). For the geospatial domain, these concepts are used to define data models for geospatial information (Kuhn and Raubal, 2003). Considering geospatial information, at least two dimensions of the information space (Fauconnier, 1994) refer to geographical space. Another dimension refers to temporal space and others to thematic spaces (Chrisman, 2002).
