ABSTRACT

For U.S.-owned environment firms interested in expanding into international markets,

USAID

matches developing countries’ needs with U.S. companies selling appropriate technologies, products and expertise. USAID programs are open to every type of U.S. entity participating in the environmental arena, from environmental and energy businesses to government and multilateral agencies, nonprofits and academia. The 2001 Annual Performance Plan (available in PDF form) breaks down USAID’s environmental programs into six focus areas: 1) protecting the world’s environment for long-term sustainability; 2) conserving biologically significant habitats; 3) reducing the threat of global climate change; 4) improving the urban populations’ access to adequate environmental services; 5) increasing environmentally sound energy services; and 6) promoting sustainable natural resource management. Descriptions of projects within each focus area can be found at www.usaid.gov/environment/whatwedo.html. This site also links to thousands of publications on various programs and projects led by USAID.
