ABSTRACT

In the early days of gas turbine development, the view was widely held that gas turbines are “omnivorous” machines, capable of operating efciently on a wide variety of cheap fuels-solid, liquid, and gaseous. The choice of fuel is dictated on the grounds of cost, availability, and ease of handling. This is true even today, provided one keeps in mind the important and restrictive effects of aircraft engine requirements on the physical and chemical properties of fuel.
