ABSTRACT

Various lifestyle factors may play a role in either the pathogenesis or, later, the resolution of incontinence. Although published literature about lifestyle factors and incontinence is sparse, alterations in lifestyle are frequently recommended by health care professionals and lay people alike. Interventions often recommended by physicians include weight loss, changing activity, smoking cessation, and decreasing or changing fluid intake. In this chapter, the published evidence for recommending these and other lifestyle interventions will be addressed.
