ABSTRACT

I. Chylothorax Chylothorax is a rather acute pleural effusion characterized by the presence of chyle into one or both pleural cavities. Due to its high-fat content, the pleural fluid is usually milky. Analysis of the pleural fluid reveals high levels of triglycerides and chylomicrons. Before considering the aetiopathogenic, clinical, biochemical, and therapeutic features of chylothorax, essential data concerning the anatomy of thoracic duct and the physiology of chyle will be briefly mentioned.
