ABSTRACT

The ragworm Nereis diversicolor is a widespread polychaete of coastal lagoons and estuaries from Scandinavia to Morocco and the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea (by introduction) and Caspian Sea (Clay 1967; Smith 1977). It is a euryhaline species and a useful pollution indicator for estuarine sediments (Bryan et al. 1980; SaizSalinas and Francés-Zubillaga 1997; Scaps 2002; Ait Alla et al. 2006a; Durou et al. 2007a and b). This species has been the subject of many studies focusing on diverse aspects of its biology and ecology, including a range of pollution-related subjects.
