Developed countries, and increasingly the whole world, are tightly coupled systems of complexity and interconnectedness – a steadily closer approximation to a global village. These rich connections bring many benefits for communications, travel, manufacturing, services, and culture. In particular, there are now unprecedented opportunities for small groups to make an impact on the world because their members can discover each other and work together in ways that were too expensive in a less-coupled world.
