ABSTRACT
In the following sections, we provide some background materials for the standard methods that have been repeatedly used throughout the book, including the likelihood methods and MCMC methods. We will focus on essential ideas and results, without going too much details. More detailed discussions of these topics can be found in many books, which are listed in the corresponding sections.
