ABSTRACT

The Workflow Management Coalition WfMC defines workflow as “The automation of a business process, in whole or part, during which documents, information or tasks are passed from one participant to another for action, according to a set of procedural rules”. In the context of grid computing, a grid workflow is defined as a workflow within a grid computing environment. The grid world has evolved from simple toolkits to authenticate users on remote supercomputers, to a service-based architecture intended for activities ranging from supporting large, distributed virtual organizations for e-science to autonomic and on-demand computing for commercial enterprises. According to the definition in the article [300], a grid workflow is “The automation of the processes, which involves the orchestration of a set of Grid services, agents and actors that must be combined together to solve a problem or to define a new service”.
