We do not want to repeat our introductory remarks as presented in Chapter 4. Obviously the continuity envelope function as given in Chapter 5 is a suitable counterpart of the growth envelope function handled in Chapter 3; so a parallel argument may serve as motivation when complementing EXC by the index uXC , too.
